Alex McLean works with pattern and code, between music, art and research. He's based in Sheffield, where he's been loosely coordinating the growing Algorave movement (a community of people producing dance music with algorithms) since its inception in 2012. He first started making music with live code since around the year 2000, developing the free/open source TidalCycles software during doctoral research in Goldsmiths since 2009. He performs as part of collaborations Slub, CCAI and Canute, and solo as Yaxu, and is working on an album Spicule coming out on Computer Club any day now. By day he applies live coding to investigate the structures of ancient woven pattern, as part of the European Research Council project PENELOPE.
