Daniel Dylan Wray is a Sheffield-based music and culture writer whose work has appeared in The Guardian, the BBC, Pitchfork, The Independent, The Times, New Statesman, Uncut and The Quietus. His first book, Groovy, Laidback and Nasty, tells the history of independent music in Sheffield across seven decades, featuring more than 150 new interviews.
Moving from electronic futurism and post-punk through pop, metal, bleep techno, bassline, and indie rock, it traces the city’s DIY spirit and the artists who built its musical legacy. It is both a cultural history and an unapologetic love letter to Sheffield.
