Gilank – Cavus
What does a cave sound like when you're completely alone?
Cavus was born out of Gilank's visit to Poole's Cavern near Buxton, where they
were given an hour inside the cave to record its sounds, and their own. Awed and
slightly unnerved by the vastness of the space, they began exploring how those
emotions might become music. Acoustic and electronic instruments merge with
field recordings from the visit, allowing the cave itself to become part of the
composition.
Cavus seeks to capture the mystery, darkness and timeless majesty of a place
shaped over thousands of years.

Creating improvised sound worlds of hypnotic beauty and strangeness, Gilank are
capturing the hearts of Bradford’s ambient electronic music lovers. Multi-musicians Alice Gilmour and shi Blank combine synths, midi controllers, contact mics, effect and loop pedals, with acoustic instruments including violin, cello, flute, percussion and vocals.
Releasing regularly on their Bandcamp page, the duo have performed with santoor
player Eeshar Singh at Undercliffe Cemetery for Bradford 2025; provided live
music for Theatre in the Mill’s A Teaspoon of Shampoo, and had a song played on BBC Radio 6’s Freak Zone playlist. And shi has also been selected as one of five residencies for the Bradford Pennine Gateway National Nature Reserve: Artist Commissions Call Out 2026 where the duo are planning a performance at sunset on Bingley Moor in October.
