Blawan (Live AV)

Opening Concert - Live at Sheffield Cathedral - Set Time: 22:40-23:40

Blawan (Jamie Roberts), is an English DJ and record producer from South Yorkshire. Roberts grew up in Barnsley, UK and from an early age was etching out his musical path as a drummer – a relic of the past which should come as no surprise to anyone familiar with his productions. Indeed, his discography as Blawan illuminates a natural fluency for rhythm, whether straight, stridently syncopated, or swinging somewhere in between.

He is best known for his track "Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage?" and his remix of the Radiohead track "Bloom", which appeared on their album TKOL RMX 1234567 (2011). He also started a hardware-only project Karenn, with fellow R&S producer Pariah. Having released across the board of rippling jet-black minimalism, jubilant two-step vocal cuts, and savant grooving techno, the labels Roberts has worked with are appropriately varied: Hessle Audio, R&S, Clone’s Basement Series, Hinge Finger, and Black Sun as Blawan, plus The Trilogy Tapes and Avian under his other solo names.

Credited as one of the artists spearheading the industrial techno revival, Blawan's post-dubstep sounds and raw, techno-influenced beats has earned him praise from DJs such as Surgeon and the Black Dog.
